Lisa and her children have such creative minds! From the minute I first met her and made her first round of circle scarfs she was always coming up with more and more ideas! Which is great and always keeps me on my toes. I’ve learned so much as having her as one of my first and best customers!
This time around she requested some pencil cases for her daughter. I wanted to make them pretty sturdy, because the standard fabric pencil case only has one layer and unlined. So for these, after confirming what I wanted after doing a little online research for options, I decided I wanted to add another layer of fabric and interface both sides of the pencil case for sturdiness and durability.
I did a test case first, which is the blue one that you see above with the Free Bird on the front. After I’d worked out all the kinks I continued on to make the next two, which I am very pleased with. I found those polka dot zippers at the fabric store and thought they were the cutest things I’d ever seen and knew they would fit perfectly for a girl about 13. Luckily I did because Lisa LOVED them =) Whew! I was hoping they didn’t have some aversion to polka dots!
Then I had so much extra fabric from her bags that I looked around and decided that she definitely needed a couple more scarves to go with her stack of By kimB originals. Since they weren’t officially part of her original order I didn’t want to put to much pressure on her to love them, because I was confident that if she didn’t then someone else would.
I tried to go bold and subtle with these color choices and leave in the signature holes from the Free City shirts which paid off because you don’t want to take away another companies signature look. And it does add a little sass to the hooded scarf.
She told me she wants to give all of these to her daughter for her birthday, but something tells me that she may keep one or two for herself =)
Thanks again Lisa!
*****Each product is handmade and re-purposed from second hand clothing and fabrics and is completely one of a kind, I couldn’t duplicate any of these bags even if I wanted too! It’s my way of going green and staying in style.
