I just got an order from a trio of some of my favorite sisters! I’ve known their family since I was a little girl. Tiffany was a year behind me in school where, Katie was a year ahead of me, and Mary was the same year as my older brother.
Tiffany and I bonded over performing arts in Middle school and were both in Show Choir, the Glee of our day =) And in high school, we whined and laughed together about our misfortune in every school musical where we were continuously harshly cast as glorified chorus members and “featured” dancers! haha.
I talked to Tiffany a year or so ago about doing some curtains for her and some other miscellaneous projects but our paths hadn’t had a chance to cross.
She was hoping I could take some of her parents things, both of whom have passed, and make something special and memorable for herself and her 2 older sisters. We tossed around a few idea and in the end she and her sisters all thought the best way to go would be quilts!
I personally love the idea of t-shirt quilts. They are such keepsakes that hold such close memories to their owners. And no one else can truly understand the importance of each square except you! When I’m putting they together I can’t help but wonder what event they may have gone too, or if there is an inside joke between the family that when they see this square will make them crack up all over again. Each piece has a history all it’s own.
About a month or two ago, I was in contact with Katie so that we could meet up and I could go through their parents things with her, and so she could tell me the idea’s that they had for the quilts, which pieces were the most important, and what item should go with each quilt.
It was a great night to hear all of her stories about their mom and dad, and their Saturday morning robes, and their proud parent shirts from each of their colleges. It was so touching and I could feel myself getting emotional during some of the stories.
But truly it’s an honor for them to ask me to do this for them, because it’s the first one that hits so close to home. I can’t help but think of all the stories Katie told me during our meeting every time I pull out an item to cut, and I pray that I can do these quilts justice!
I can’t wait to see how these turn out. And I hope and pray they are everything these girls hope for and deserve.
Can’t wait to show you all the finished product!
Thanks for stopping by!
