Everytime I meet with Katie for a project we literally talk for at least an hour about anything and everything besides the project we met about! She just too funny and I can’t shut up when I’m around her!
Anyhow as with all of the other projects I’ve done, this was one she’d had in her head since before we did the quilts using her parents items but she wanted to do that one first before making one out of her things.
These are all shirts that she’s received as gifts, bought and collected over the years, but as you grow up, you tend to stop wearing shirts with colorful graphics of Jem and the Rockstars and other totally awesome 80’s cartoons on them, and start pushing all the clothes this heat pressed photos on them to the back of your closet.
Well Katie decided that instead of donating these things, some which have more sentimental value that others, she’d much rather just have them made into a fun quilt to keep for years to come.
So that’s my next task at hand! I’ll spend most of my time trying to put together the puzzle that is a quilt, swapping colors, and deciding what square to put where and what size each square should be.
Sewing is always the easy part. It’s the getting there that takes the real time! All the creative decisions have to be made before you actually get to see the final product which makes it a little nerve wrecking but always exciting!
So there’s still a but more time before this guy gets finished but the journey is the destination!
*****Each product is handmade and re-purposed from second hand clothing and fabrics and is completely one of a kind, I couldn’t duplicate any of these bags even if I wanted too! It’s my way of going green and staying in style.
